WESTDEUTSCHE SINFONIA LEVERKUSEN Leitung: Dirk Joeres Sponsored by Stadt Leverkusen, EVL, Sparkasse Leverkusen, WGL Als die Westdeutsche Sinfonia unter Leitung von Dirk Joeres 1991 ihr Debüt im Musikvereinssaal Wien gab, hob die Presse den „glasklaren klassischen Glanz“ des Klangbildes hervor. Inzwischen hat sich das Orchester Konzertsäle wie das Amsterdamer Concertgebouw, die Berliner Philharmonie, das Londoner Barbican und das Kennedy Center Washington erobert. Gleichzeitig ist die Westdeutsche Sinfonia auch zu einer festen Größe im rheinischen Musikleben geworden: sie gastiert regelmäßig in Bonn, Düsseldorf, Köln, bei den Rheinischen Musikfesten und hat eine eigene Konzertreihe im Forum Leverkusen. Seine Gründung 1987 verdankt das Orchester einem originellen Konzept: führende Musiker von acht nordrhein-westfälischen Orchestern prägen die Sinfonia, deren erste CD-Einspielung 1989 erschien und die 1990 erstmals in die USA reiste. 1991 schrieb das Gramophone Magazine London anlässlich des Critics’ Choice Award: „superbes Orchesterspiel und ausdrucksstarke, durchdachte Interpretationen“. Das Repertoire der Sinfonia umfasst klassische Schwerpunkte wie sämtliche Beethoven- und Schubert-Sinfonien, die z.Zt. auch für einen CD-Zyklus eingespielt werden, aber auch Wiederentdeckungen und Uraufführungen etwa beim Beethovenfest Bonn und bei dem Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival. Auch bei den Festivals von Bratislava, Budapest, Cheltenham, Ljubljana, London sind Dirk Joeres und die Westdeutsche Sinfonia oft zu Gast. Anläßlich ihres Debüts im Großen Festspielhaus Salzburg in 2004, schrieben die Salzburger Nachrichten: „das Orchester ist vorzüglich konsolidiert in Spieldisziplin und Klangbalance.
